The Bumpercards Story
arly in 2000, as the internet boom was about to collapse, Bumpercards was launched in the spare room of a small house in Santa Monica, California and has grown to become one of the most unique and sought after design companies in the stationery industry.
The driving force behind the company is Michelle Harwood, a mother of two with a passion for graphic design - a passion that can be seen in each and every Bumpercards design. While working as an animator on the popular television show South Park, Michelle was asked by a family member if she could help them find the perfect baby announcements for their new baby girl. After searching online, one thing became obvious - not only were most designs unoriginal and uninspired, the buying process was often difficult and confusing.
It was then that Michelle saw an opportunity to fill the void by offering stationery that was different - stationery that was special and would help people stand out from the boring, cookie cutter designs that seemed to be everywhere. Along with originality, ordering these unique designs would also be easy and safe. Starting with only a handful of baby stationery designs, Bumpercards slowly grew almost completely by word of mouth. Eventually, Michelle's designs began to catch the eye of celebrities in Los Angeles and were often included in gift bags at entertainment awards shows and events.
Soon after, as word spread, the demand for original designs from the company exploded. After marrying in 2003, Michelle and her husband Steve developed a business plan that would allow Bumpercards to expand its catalog yet still maintain a focus on originality, style and value. That plan has evolved into the current website and product lines which include a wide range of products such as personalized stationery, custom invitations, announcements, wedding stationery, photo cards, address labels and more.
In 2008, afer the birth of her son, Michelle applied the same passion and focus into creating Tykecoon, a small boutique line of baby and children's clothing and stationery which can now be found on the Bumpercards website.
Today, Bumpercards offers over 350 custom designs and is dedicated to helping customers stand out by sending truly original stationery, invitations and announcements. And, unlike many other companies online, Bumpercards is interested in creating and maintaining relationships with its customers - relationships that last long after the first sale is made.
With an emphasis on customer satisfaction and providing the very best in unique personalized stationery, Bumpercards continues to grow and add to its long list of friends and clients.
